Vintage Ornamental Handrail Restoration

This beautiful South Minneapolis home was built in the mid-1920s, and the homeowners still had the original decorative steel rails that had long since been removed. When the concrete steps were replaced decades ago, the rails no longer fit properly and couldn’t be mounted to the house. The homeowner, who grew up in the home, wanted them adjusted to restore the original look of the entryway.

Nathan designed and fabricated new foot mounts and welded them to the vintage ornamental handrails. He also matched paint to ensure the work matched the other turn of the century embellishments on the home.

His work was so exact, he was able to mount them to the house in their original mounts. Nathan went the extra mile and firmly anchored even this decorative railing by drilling into the concrete step. Though the railing might not be load bearing or required by code, he still wanted the installation to be solid and to last for another lifetime, as the original architect intended.
