Industrial Pipe Handrail

During Minnesota’s brutal winters, the steps to your door can become a slipping hazard. A good solid handrail to hold onto is not just a nice little feature to your doorway. It can literally save your butt! And, the Minnesota building code even requires one depending on how many stairs you have.

This house in the historic Longfellow neighborhood in Minneapolis had an industrial old pipe handrail, most likely installed in the 1970s around the time the house was built. Unfortunately the railing was not up to today’s safety standard, and even worse, it had become detached from the house, making it no longer safe.

Nathan salvaged the industrial pipe railing and added length and height to bring the railing up to code. After adding a nice lick of paint, the new railing is now safe to use while maintaining the historic look that matches this house.
